Meet the Transformers: A Guide to the Robots

The Transformers -- they're robots in disguise! Michael Bay's 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' promises to be one of the biggest movies of the summer, and this time the director's throwing more shape-shifting robots into the mix. But even after the first movie -- not to mention an animated series and a Marvel comic -- it can still be tough to tell your Autobots and your Decepticons apart. Have no fear, puny humans: Keep them all straight with our handy guide to the Transformers robots.

Optimus Prime (Autobot)

The leader of the Autobots, the last of the "Primes" and the heroic protector of the human race, Optimus rolls over Decepticon scum like they're so much bubblegum under the wheel of a semi truck -- which, conveniently, happens to be his vehicular disguise.

The Fallen (Decepticon)

The sequel's titular villain voiced by Tony Todd (aka 'Candyman') may appear scrawny in comparison to his fellow 'bots, but he's no lightweight: He can teleport with ease and generate a flaming shockwave upon reappearing. He's also a superior rank to Megatron, commanding him to hunt down Sam, the key to finding another source of Energon, the life source of Transformers.

Jetfire (Autobot)
Known as Skyfire in the TV series, Jetfire is an aged Decepticon who defects to the Autobots and fights loyally for their cause. In the movie, he takes the form of an SR-71 Blackbird jet that's been housed in the Smithsonian for years; he also has a beard and uses a cane, which he must have ... acquired in the museum somewhere? Your guess is as good as ours.

Megatron (Decepticon)

When we last left the arrogant Decepticon leader, he was at the bottom of the ocean, out of commission. Or so we thought. Though he has a boss -- the Fallen -- Megatron still likes to order robots around and threaten inferior humans. In the TV series, he took the form of a gun, but for the first 'Transformers' movie Michael Bay changed him into a jet whose hand turns into a gun ... which, in the Michael Bay world, is far more realistic.
