Zac Efron to Star in a 'Sexy Thriller' & More Movie News

Zac Efron is drop-kicking his wholesome Disney image to star in an untitled film for Mandate that's described as a "sexy thriller." Written by 'The Thomas Crown Affair' and 'Hairspray' scribe Leslie Dixon, the movie is a logical step in Efron's career shift from 'High School Musical' pinup to more mature leading man. Katherine Heigl is getting a 'Life.' She'll take a break from romantic comedies to star in the drama 'Life as We Know It,' about two single adults whose mutual best friends die in a car accident and leave them to care for their orphaned daughter. Heavy stuff. [Variety] | The Hollywood Reporter]

Heather Graham, Johnny Knoxville, Craig Robinson and Camilla Belle will star opposite Kevin Spacey in 'Father of Invention,' a comedy about an egomaniacal inventor/billionaire (Spacey) who returns from an eight-year prison stint to find his life in a shambles. Belle will play Spacey's daughter, while Graham takes the part of the lesbian roommate who seduces him. Makes sense. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Publisher Little, Brown has revealed the brand-spanking-new book cover for the movie tie-in edition of 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon.' While Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart get most of the attention, the cover also gives Rob Pattinson lovers a reason to howl at the moon. [See the cover on EW.com]

David Fincher is in talks to direct 'The Social Network,' the Aaron Sorkin-scripted film about the origins of Facebook. Way to give MySpace the shaft, Aaron. [Variety]

Daniel Craig is in early talks to star in 'Dream House,' a psychological thriller in which he'd play a man who moves his family to an idyllic small town and soon discovers that his house is haunted by its murdered former inhabitants. Hate it when that happens. [The Hollywood Reporter]
