Spike Lee Pays Tribute to Michael Jackson at the Apollo & More Movie News

Spike Lee and Rev. Al Sharpton joined thousands of emotional fans in paying tribute to pop legend Michael Jackson at New York City's famed Apollo Theater in Harlem yesterday. Lee, Sharpton and others took to the stage to give brief speeches, while DJs spun Michael Jackson songs and fans danced along to the music, some even imitating Jackson's signature move: the moonwalk. Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman and four members of Judd Apatow's comedy crew (Michael Cera, Seth Rogen, James Franco and Paul Rudd) are among the 134 movie industry players offered membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this year. Well, they are in the indie dramedy 'The Kids Are All Right,' in which they play a same-sex couple whose two children (Josh Hutcherson and Mia Wasikowska) hunt down their sperm-donor father (Mark Ruffalo), resulting in some serious ramifications for their fam. Christina Applegate and 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' star Charlie Day have joined Drew Barrymore and Justin Long in the romantic comedy 'Going the Distance,' about a couple (Drew and Justin) who try to maintain a long-distance relationship. [The Hollywood Reporter]


George Clooney and producing partner Grant Heslov have taken their company, Smokehouse Productions, and left the Warner Bros. building. Clooney and Heslov's shingle will relocate from the WB lot to Sony, where they've signed a two-year first-look deal. [Variety] | [The Hollywood Reporter]


Oscar-winning veteran actresses Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker are set to star in the road-trip comedy 'Cloudburst,' playing a same-sex couple, together for 30 years, who break out of a nursing home and head to Canada to get married. [The Hollywood Reporter]
