Earlier this week, Paramount declared war on critics when it announced that it would not screen 'G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra' for purposes of review (usually not a good sign). But now that it's Friday and the movie is opening, critics have had a chance to take in the action-packed flick, and let's just say that many of them aren't pulling any punches.Moviefone has compiled a fair sampling (we hope) of reviews from across the Web so that moviegoers will know what to expect when they head to the multiplex -- because, as the saying goes, knowing is half the battle. -- By Tom DiChiara
Variety: "Playing more like a highlight reel from an established franchise than a movie intended to launch it, 'G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra' interrupts its barrage of CGI action for only the barest minimum of anything resembling character development"
The Hollywood Reporter: "The latest action franchise seemingly designed to further spread the incidence of ADD among youth the world over, 'G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra' plays like a sequel to a film that was never made."
L.A. Times: "Basically, the Joes are not bad, it's just that they could have been much better with a little less conversation, a little more action."
Newsday: "It's enjoyable enough while it's speeding along. Like the Joes themselves, the movie succeeds by simply crashing headfirst through every obstacle."
The Washington Post: "Stephen Sommers's film, based on the line of Hasbro action figures you melted in the microwave during elementary school, is the loudest, flashiest, silliest and longest blockbuster in a summer full of long, silly, flashy, loud blockbusters (long and silly 'Transformers,' flashy and loud 'Wolverine')."

This movie was a Colossal waste of money. Most of it looked like a video game, and I am sick to death of paying ten dollars to watch a video game. I'd read somewhere that the movie cost upwards of 30 million to make. 30 Million dollars, those were the best actors the casting director could find? Are you serious? If you have not seen the movie yet, save yourself some money and rent it for a buck. It's barely worth that.

I agree. The computer graphics resembled a video game, and were completely unrealistic. The characters were so poorly developed, you really didn't care what happened to them. Worst of all was the story-line. They could have simply copied a story from the animated series, and had a better result. Don't waste your money going to the theatre.
