5. 'The Matrix Revolutions' (2003)One thing you can say about those Wachowski brothers, they sure know how to time their movies. After giving us four years to digest how bloody brilliant part 1 was, they crammed two sequels together, not giving us a moment to ponder how bad part 2 ('Reloaded') actually was. This one, part 3, got saddled with delivering a disappointing ending that lacked ambiguity or any of the philosophical musings of its predecessors.

4. 'Batman & Robin' (1997)Otherwise known as the Filmmaker's Guide to Ruining a Franchise. Key points: Tack on a sidekick, and then a sidekick to the sidekick (preferably female); heap on villains without regard for infamy, or lack thereof; casting -- try a dartboard; ramp up the camp and, especially, the homoerotic innuendo; and above all: codpieces and rubber, pointy nipples for your superhero.
• Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 12%
• Box Office Gross: $107 million
3. 'Pearl Harbor' (2001)Michael Bay's first crack at a mega-blockbuster failed on too many levels to count -- but we'll try. Bay's all-star cast failed to pack any punch, the side-story love triangle lacked emotion, the dialogue fell painfully flat and none of the crucial action sequences (which many war veterans complained to be grossly inaccurate) could match the power of, say, the Normandy invasion scene in 'Saving Private Ryan,' which had arrived three years earlier.
• Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 25%
• Box Office Gross: $198 million
2. 'The Cat in the Hat' (2003)Who was this one was supposed to appeal to? Kids were scared of Mike Myers' freaky cat makeup and probably didn't get that he was just doing Austin Powers -- or, more accurately, Jim Carrey -- in a fur suit. Parents, meanwhile, were turned off by all of the fart and belch jokes, and they recoiled at the mere presence of go-to moppets Spencer Breslin ('The Kid') and Dakota Fanning (every cute movie ever).
• Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 12%
• Box Office Gross: $101 million
1. 'Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace' (1999) Be honest: George Lucas could have delivered a three-hour documentary on the mating habits of dung beetles and you still would have attended the first new 'Star Wars' movie since 1983. (In reality, could 'The Phantom Menace' have been much worse?) Among Lucas' more egregious offenses were the jive-talking Jar-Jar Binks, a goofier Yoda and child actor Jake Lloyd (as baby Vader) who's been pleasantly AWOL ever since.
• Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 63%
• Box Office Gross: $431 million

you guys have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. most of those movies you listed were great movies. Transformers 2 is the best movie created, and the storyline was good. you movie critics and other people probably get paid to say all this stuff
David Lean at 11:30AM on Aug 17th 2009
Michael, you are soo funny...you are a naughty little "S--t stirrer" - of course Transformers 2 was horrible...stop it...no one with human intelligence really liked it....you are hilarious! Now please stop it and write something serious!
sirgentry at 11:53AM on Aug 17th 2009
I wouldnt say that Transfomers 2 was the best movie ever, but it wasnt that bad. Most of those movies were pretty good. Some were ridiculous, but hey that's movies, if you don't like it, don't waste your money.
Terd Ferguson at 8:17PM on Aug 17th 2009
can anyone name any good sequels besides the first star wars sequel, episode V and the godfather 2. Other than those two there aren't any sequels that live up to its predecessor. One example is Caddyshack 2 and it might be the first movie ever created in compared to Caddyshack. Please comment.

ha ha ha ha ha ... Transformers 2 is the best movie ever. Not sure if you know this, but movies need a story. THis article is spot on.

I agree with Michael. Most of those movies were awesome movies. They should have been on the top 25 best movies, instead of the worst ones. Transformers 2, Pearl Harbor, Armageddon. They were great movies. I want to know where this list is being generated from because it is bogus.

Man, I don't know what to feel, I own a junk load of these movies, mentioned. Do I have bad tastes or am I just not quick to judge behind a desk...?
AlbertX at 5:41PM on Aug 19th 2009
Terminator 2? Aliens? Toy Story 2? The Two Towers? Blade II? you need more?
Hugo at 6:35PM on Aug 19th 2009
Yeah! Stop talking right now ... YOU have know idea what you are saying. All those films are terrible and put cinema to shame everytime a supposedly cinema-lover claims they're great.
Maria_R at 8:04PM on Aug 19th 2009
Transformers 2?? best movie ever? What a joke, it was a total waste of time. But I do agree there's some good movies on that list!
James McDonald at 1:51AM on Aug 20th 2009
how about THE DARK KNIGHT, terd ferguson!?!? not only is it one of the best sequels made, it's one of the best movies made and by far the best comic book film to date. i loved batman begins, but tdk was leaps and bounds ahead of it, too.
Trane90 at 3:36AM on Aug 21st 2009
@Terd Ferguson
Evil Dead 2 is in my opinion far better than the original which I also liked, then you have The Road Warrior, Wrath of Khan is by far superior compared to first Star Trek, then you have Superman II, Terminator 2, Dawn of the Dead etc.

Obvious troll is obvious.

Transformers was a very good movie. But you all should remember that the critic's have never made a 4 or 5 star movie. If you don't like it... fine, but it doesn't mean that everyone follows your lead. I liked the movie and even understood the storyline and I'm betting that most of you including the critic never read the Transformers comic from the 80's and 90's.
Freeman at 8:39PM on Aug 21st 2009
Transformers was horrible.
Horrible acting. Period. Lebeauf is a wannabe Harrison Ford.
And the plot... dont even get me started.
They sped up the movie to confuse people into thinking there was a point to the events piling up on each other.
Transformers is one of the greatest comic books ever and Michael Bay butchered it with his surplus availability to special effects and budget
Jason at 9:43PM on Aug 21st 2009
I agree for the most part the writers of this 'article' is an imbecile who believes his or her opinion is relevant to the mainstream. But Transformers 2 was a ridiculously silly movie, even by teenager standards.
However, the Da Vinci code was an exceptional movie. Get over the guy's haircut. How petty can one be? I wonder whether the writer of this collection has a college degree, hell, even a high school degree, with his immature and whiny comments. X-Men Wolverine was very well done in comparison to X3. Franco did not overact in Spider-Man 3, he acted the way he's supposed to act, like an actor. I can't even remember the rest of the absurd rankings. Grow up.
Brian at 10:58PM on Aug 21st 2009
If critics were real men, they would have real jobs so it doesn't matter anyway.
James at 11:04PM on Aug 21st 2009
I'd give you a facepalm for this, but I don't want to have to waste my time explaining it
Dave at 11:31PM on Aug 21st 2009
Wow Mike Martin, would hate to hear what other movies you thin are great. Scary thought. TF 2 was pure crap and the first one was a little less crap. Wow to three Michael Bay blockbusters on this list. Anyone see a pattern? He sucks. Should never be allowed near any sort of "blockbuster" film.
Lawrence at 7:45AM on Aug 22nd 2009
Terminator 2 was one of the best sequels ever made. Transformers 2 was a awful. I guess when you guys grow up and try to watch this movie as an adult you will see how ridiculous it was.
