Summer is supposed to be high time for car chases, explosions and intrepid heroes saving the universe from evildoers. Yet while 'Transformers' won the battle at the box office, voters in our annual end-of-summer poll picked an entirely different kind of beast as season's best. Despite its lack of star power, robots and action (unless you count a little tasering), the R-rated comedy 'The Hangover' beat out big-budget, action-packed heavyweights like 'Transformers,' 'Harry Potter' and 'Star Trek' in the top category of movie most worth your cash, earning twice as many votes as the nearest finisher.
On the other end of the spectrum, two less popular comedies, 'Year One' and 'Land of the Lost,' fought it out for summer's worst. See all the results from our poll -- which racked up more than 600,000 votes -- below.

What? (500) Days of Summer is not a chick flick! To call a film that awesome and that fresh and original a chick flick is demeaning. That is so much more than just a lame chick flick.
Julian at 4:24PM on Aug 20th 2009
You're right, it's actually a romantic comedy focusing on the fact that fated lovers may not be the first person we fill attracted to. While it does focus on the rom-com aspect it is by no means a chick flick.
LP at 1:07PM on Sep 5th 2009
Just because you like it does not mean it is anything more than a chick flick. "Date flicks" are "chick flicks" no matter the quality.
BTY, "500 Days" is a pretty overrated chick flick, at that. A better alternative, "Away We Go", an indie movie that avoids using most of the indie cliches "500 Days" jackhammers down our throats throughout.

Yeah, it wasn't a "chick flick" it just flat out sucked! I only got stuck seeing it because I missed the beginning of Inglorious Basterds by 5 minutes!!! If you liked this movie you can date my soon to be ex-gf

ryan reynolds and seth rogan are terrible choices for action movies ryan reynolds is a b-list comedy actor at best dont get me wrong i like all the movies he is in but terrible for action
Caitlin at 10:55PM on Sep 4th 2009
Actually Ryan Renalds has been in an action movie before, Blade Trinity, and he was very good. Although I think he will be good as Green Lantern, I always thought he would be great as The Flash.
joe at 11:41PM on Sep 4th 2009
seth rogan will not make a good super hero. though he is hilarious
Tank at 1:31PM on Sep 5th 2009
Ryan Reynolds was also Deadpool in the Wolverine movie if im not mistaken
arielle at 6:16PM on Aug 20th 2009
THE HANGOVER was the hands down best comedy and overall movie of the summer and it was worth every penny that I spent to see it.
stephen at 12:55AM on Sep 5th 2009
yes it was. Spent of 20 bucks watching it 3, maybe 4 times,
Steve at 8:30PM on Aug 20th 2009
The Hurt Locker was by far the best movie this summer. District 9 was a total joke.
Dave Clark at 3:38PM on Aug 21st 2009
I agree 100 per cent. I see nearly 100 movies per year and District 9 was mind numbing trash. I hope The Hurt Locker gets a wider release and Oscar attention this year.
H at 9:22PM on Aug 21st 2009
I also agree. "The Hurt Locker" was terrific! Way better than most of the junk that comes out during the Summer.
Santos at 10:26PM on Aug 21st 2009
No way District 9 was amazing Hurt Locker was good but come on War movies touch action and reality Hurt Locker touched action not Reality Remember Platoon thats a real War movie it touched action and reality of the horrors of war Saving Private Ryan also good District 9 was bout racism and the human nature toward others understand it was powerful film
Andy at 6:07PM on Sep 2nd 2009
hurt locker was hella lame.... im in the war poor me. its been done get over it they need to quit trying to make war movies about nothing. i have no sympathy for volunteers who happen to choose a job that could get them killed.
The man at 1:26AM on Sep 5th 2009
i didnt see the hurt locker but i wanted to but to call District 9 a joke ur a joke that was by far one of the most oringanal movies i have ever seen it was awsome cgi and the best part was the fact that it was and idepedent film you do not know movies if u dont like District 9 and i am not a peter jackson fan but that movie was great
