Sure, zombies are supposed to scare the everliving crap out of us: They like to eat flesh, sometimes tear humans limb from limb and generally flout most (well, all) established forms of social decorum. But the bloody funny 'Zombieland' is the latest in a growing line of flicks to prove that the walking dead proffer up plenty of opportunities for unmitigated hilarity.Case in point: 'Zombieland' sees Woody Harrelson inventively dispatch flesh-eating former humans with everything from a baseball bat to hedge clippers to a banjo -- all while rattling off snappy one-liners and generally chewing the scenery with more fervor than a zombie devouring the leg meat of a twentysomething young lady. In short, it's brilliant.
To make sure this horror comedy trend continues, we're celebrating it in all its guffaw-inducing, gore-soaked glory by presenting clips of some zombie movie scenes that are so freaking hilarious it's scary. Check 'em out below, then chime in with your favorites.

'Dead Snow' (2009)
What's the only thing more vile than zombies? Nazi zombies, of course. That's why it's so fun to watch a group of German medical students disembowel, decapitate, chainsaw in half, hammer to a pulp, and snowmobile to death hordes of Hitler's undead goose-steppers -- set against a picturesque winter landscape, of course. The best part about the scene, though: When a zombie bites one of our heroes on the arm, he simply hacks off the infected limb and laughs. Sadly, his moment of triumph turns sour when he gets bitten just south of the belt. What to do then?

'Shaun of the Dead' (2004)
Simon Pegg and his pals require a full two-and-a-half minutes -- and a whole lot of pumping up courtesy of Queen's 'Don't Stop Me Now' (which plays on the juke box) -- to kill one fat, over-the-hill zombie in this British horror parody. Honestly, that's probably better than we'd do.

'Dawn of the Dead' (2004)
Things can get boring when you're holed up on the roof of a mall with thousands of zombies milling about below. Turns out the best way to pass the time is by zeroing in on those that look like celebrities and blowing their brains out. So long, Zombie Jay Leno! Adios, Undead Rosie O'Donnell! Bite the big one, Flesh-Eating Burt Reynolds!

'Dead Alive' (1992)
Before he was the respected, Oscar-winning director of the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, Peter Jackson made horror schlock like this 1992 gem of directing debut, the climax of which sees a quiet momma's boy rise to the occasion, strap a lawnmower around his neck and plow through a houseful of zombies in one of the bloodiest scenes in movie history. Watching a decapitated zombie head get juiced in a blender for no apparent reason and a creepy little zombie baby get torched as it tries to crawl out of a dead girl's skull? Well, that's just gravy. Gooey, bloody, hilarious gravy.

I like the scene in "Let Sleeping Corpses Lie" when George and Edna are trapped in the underground morgue and the undead rise from their wooden caskets. They feverishly manage to escape the clawing hands through a hole in the cieling that gets them above ground.

What, not a single mention of Special Dead? You could have included the whole movie!
JohnnyD at 6:38AM on Oct 9th 2009
The article mentions Re-Animator and it is very funny. In one scene a zombie is decapitated and then finds his head, and throws it at the college students!

I love Shaun of the Dead, and we watch it all the time. The scene in the bar is so funnny, and is one of my favorite parts.

This horror-comedy trend isn't really all that new.It really started with"ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN",then I think the Marx Bros. did something called "GHOST CHASERS"(sort of an early ancestor of "Ghostbusters").Decades later came THE ADDAMS FAMILY and the MUNSTERS TV series, and recently we've had comedic moments in BUFFY,THE VAMPIRE SLAYER,then the annual TREEHOUSE OF HORROR specials on the SIMPSONS(the only eps TRULY worth watching anymore),and the best of all,the "SCREAM" trilogy. Oh,did I mention ELVIRA,MISTRESS OF THE DARK? Sorry, sweetheart, almost forgot you. My bad.

You forgot "The Fearless Vampire Killers"

Theres a really funny one when the zombies run amok in an episode of Dark Shadows but as i can see they only look at things that are movies from the 2000's and 90's , there is other funny zombie stuff from further back too as far as just movies go.

What about "Evil Dead" , especially the old lady zombie from the cellar? Stomp her head until her eyeball flies out, and into someone`s mouth ?!?!! Classic !
Bryan at 5:21PM on Oct 12th 2009
I like the scene from Shaun of the Dead when they're singing "White Lies" and the Zombie in the background moans at the perfect time 'da ba da ba da da da ba da unhhhhhh"
Jill at 12:31PM on Oct 12th 2009
Does anyone remember "Fido?" Hilarious! But the best is "Shaun of the Dead." The scene with the records gets me every time!

I just have one great quote that should have been noted... "Return of The Living Dead"
"Send More Cops!"
Ok 2 quotes --
"brains, Brains, Brains...!"
Cindy at 6:05PM on Oct 30th 2009
To Thomas:
Glad you liked the show,I also thought it hilarious. But ya got the quote wrong! It's when the zombie is at the ambulance and says," SEND MORE PARAMEDICS!" You tried, though. Great flick. I like the scene in the warehouse where the sectioned dog bodies start to move and bark, too!
Kim at 11:31PM on Oct 31st 2009
In response to Cindy's quote correction from Return of the Living Dead, the zombie asks for more paramedics, then later in the movie he requests more cops.

never knew peter jackson directed dead alive my copy is called brain dead but if you like the film try bad taste very funny
Kenny at 3:06PM on Oct 30th 2009
Actually i have both Brain Dead and Dead Alive. My Brain Dead is a different movie than Dead Alive. But I still believe you. Older film companies would do that sometime. Release same movie with different names to basically sell more copies. Ever seen Zombie? they released Zombie as Zombie and Zombie 2. But it's the same movie. Kinda stupid i thought

Zombie Flesh Eaters 2 has possibly the funniest scene ever.
A zombie head flies out of a refridgerator and starts eating a guy, it's awesome.
Return of the living Dead is awesome also.
