Eli Roth Turning Faux 'Grindhouse' Trailer Into Full-Length Horror Flick

If horror filmmaker Eli Roth actually finished every movie he's been rumored to be involved in, his schedule would be filled up until 2050. Speaking at Mexico's Morelia International Film Festival, though, the 'Hostel' director confirmed his involvement in a number of projects, including his first non-horror directorial attempt with the sci-fi themed 'Endangered Species.' (Thankfully not a reboot of the Natasha Henstridge series.)

Roth is still tight-lipped on the details for 'Species,' but said he plans on shooting the film back to back with the full-length version of 'Thanksgiving,' an extension of the faux trailer he created for Quentin Tarantino's and Robert Rodriguez's 2007 B-movie homage 'Grindhouse.' The writer/director also discussed continued development of 'The Man With the Iron Fist,' a kung fu-based script with Wu-Tang Clan producer/rapper RZA, as well as his producer role on 'Cotton,' the story of a Louisiana evangelical minister ('Big Love''s Patrick Fabian) that allows a documentary crew to film his last exorcism. Directed by Daniel Stamm, Roth plans on premiering the latter at Sundance Film Festival in January.

While we're happy to see Roth leave his gorey (dis)comfort zone with 'Endangered Species,' we're equally interested to see if 'Thanksgiving,' a 3-minute gag trailer, has enough legs to sustain itself as a feature-length movie. Sadly, though, it looks like 'Trailer Trash,' Roth's rumored attempt to make a movie based solely on faux trailers, is permanently grounded for now.
