Max: 'Where the Wild Things' Are Halloween Costume

Halloween is approaching, and we're giving out treats: tips on how to dress like your favorite movie characters.

Costume: Max from 'Where the Wild Things Are'

What You'll Need: Since most of the snazzy-looking Max pajamas in existence sold out ages ago, you're going to have to get crafty if you want to go as the mischievous little boy in wolf's clothing from Maurice Sednak's beloved children's book and director Spike Jonze's poignant new film (in theaters Oct. 16). In other words, you're going to have to make the costume from scratch.

The easiest way to do this is to buy a cheap pair of Oxford gray sweatpants and a matching gray hoodie. Sew or pin a gray feather boa to the back of the pants for the tail, cut two triangles out of an old gray shirt, tape some cardboard inside so they stick up straight, and pin them to the hood for ears. Toss a gold plastic crown atop that hood -- because, you know, you're supposed king of all those sharp-toothed creatures and you need to assert yourself -- and (voila!) you're ready to sail off to 'Where the Wild Things Are.'

Optional Accessories: Your fiercest roar, of course ... because it's not a wild rumpus without some good old-fashioned howling. Oh, and if you can convince your friends to dress as the Wild Things and then periodically genuflect to you, that'd sure help your credibility.
