Clive Owen and Catherine Keener are putting their 'Trust' in David Schwimmer.According to the Hollywood Reporter, the pair are starring in 'Trust,' a dark indie drama which Schwimmer is directing for Millennium Films. It tells the story of a family blindsided when their teenage daughter becomes a victim of an online sexual predator. Owen and Keener play the parents, while newcomer Liana Liberato will play the daughter. Schwimmer came up with the story and is producing with his Dark Harbor Stories company.
This could be a stretch for Schwimmer, whose acting career hasn't exactly burned up the big (or little screen) since 'Friends' ended its TV run and whose directorial debut, the Simon Pegg-starring comedy 'Run Fatboy Run' (2007), fell flat in the states (though it went over big in the U.K.).
He will have some good talent to work with, however. Owen has been testing his acting chops, playing heroes in such thrillers as 'Children of Men' and 'The International,' taking a historical turn as Sir Walter Raleigh in 'Elizabeth: The Golden Age,' tackling comedy in 'Duplicity' and most recently tapping his inner self in 'The Boys Are Back.' Keener, meanwhile, has become the Everywoman of the big screen, playing wives and lovers in no less than 15 films in the past four years.
We have our doubts about the project. The topic of online sexual predators has been the fare of so many TV shows (both fiction and expose) that unless there's an interesting twist on the story (a revenge flick, perhaps) we just can't get too excited about it. At the least, we hope there will be a title change: There are three other films in the pipeline with that moniker.
