Talented Dylan Baker -- who can play roles as varied as a pedophile, a priest, an FBI agent, a serial killer and even Robert McNamara -- may finally get his chance to become a cold-blooded supervillain.According to a report at Collider, Baker has heeded the call from 'Spider-Man 4' director Sam Raimi to reprise his role as Dr. Curt Connors, Peter Parker's professor at Empire State University.
In the 'Spider-Man' comic books, Connors becomes one of the webspinner's many foes when he transforms into the Lizard after trying to regrow an amputated arm with reptile DNA. In the last two installments of the franchise, however, Connors has appeared in the background.
Fans and bloggers have been speculating -- and hoping -- that Connors and the Lizard would bask in the sun in the fourth Spidey outing. It's been rumored that the Lizard is one of Raimi's favorite characters, but the director has yet to announce any of the villains in 'Spider-Man 4,' which begins filming in March and is set for a 2011 release.
According to Collider, Baker himself is circumspect about the role. At a press junket for the DVD release of Michael Dougherty's 'Trick 'r Treat,' in which the actor stars in one of the four vignettes, he wouldn't confirm whether or not Connors would step out of the background. There was some joking about the possibility of the Lizard's appearance, and "Baker apparently joined in the joking, but it's unclear whether he was actually confirming a small role for Connors or if he was giving a wink and a nod."

I think this is a good move. It makes sense and will keep the story in check. I would like to see Carnage show up towards the end of 4 to set up something big for the 5th movie.

"The Lizard" is not a villain. He isn't even the product of callous hubris. He's a mishap. If he is the "villain" of the next Spider-Man movie, he will mar the movie in the same way that Mr. Freeze ruined "Batman and Robin". I am similarly unenthusiastic about the presence of Carnage. Electro would be better suited to be the primary adversary.

Electro would be a nice villain to be primary. But I would love to see Doc Connors as The Lizard. I know eventually the Doc was able to control his Lizard half to an extent when he turned and helped out Spidey from time to time.
