Jake Gyllenhaal putting on muscles appears to finally have been worth it.Disney's first trailer for 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time' hit the Web Monday, showing a glimpse into the newest mega-project from Jerry Bruckheimer and his flashy toys. Pictures famously circulated last year of the normally medium-build Gyllenhaal showing off layers of extra muscle for the role.
In the trailer, Gyllenhaal shares a lot of screen time with costar Gemma Aterton ('Quantum of Solace') and looks videogame-stylized in the tradition of Angelina Jolie in 'Lara Croft.' The duo play Prince Daston and Princess Tamina, an odd couple matched together to take a powerful dagger that can turn back time by unleashing sand to a guardian temple, and protect it from, well, a nefarious old guy wearing a black cape.
Early buzz on the trailer is mixed. Pulpy elements may appear silly -- marked by the appearance of Ben Kingsley wearing eye make-up, and Gyllenhaal's pan-national accent (after last year's underwhelming 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,' 'Indiana Jones Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,' and 'Jumper,' the world doesn't need another campy multinational action epic) vacant stare and '70s style long stringy hair.
But there is a cool stylistic element that feels fresh.
Bruckheimer is no stranger to globetrotting pulp action, and 'Prince of Persia,' directed by Mike Newell ('Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'), looks similar to his 'National Treasure' actioners. The movie is scheduled for release May 28, 2010.
We'll see if those muscles come in handy.

Brokeback Mountain was a fasntastic movie, a different kind of true love story, yes, but a love story...not just a gay cowboy movie. You obviously have no taste in good films...

GEEZ, why are you such a freak of nature? Brokeback Mountain received alot of critical aclai worldwide, plus the two western shirts are now enshrined in the Gene Autry Western Museum in Los Angeles. Thank the Goddess that you opinion is yours and yours alone. Go hate on someone else!

Dawn - No taste in good movies? Brokeback Mountain was a horrible movie with a poorly written script and shotty filming. The only reason it got any press was the fact that it had the gay factor in it. It's just like the more recent movie Milk. It was promoted as "excellent" movie about gays that didn't last in theaters. Whats more interesting, most gays I know thought both movies were terrible and done in bad taste.
Everyone has their own tastes in movies. It's great you liked BM. But just because someone didn't like a movie about gays doesnt mean they that they have no taste in films. No does it make someone homophobic, I might add.

creepy? You idiot!! that was a masterpiece.. You obvioulsy are very backward and do not have any taste of style, sophiscation, or current events. That movie won 8 oscars..you fool.

Brokeback Mountain was pre-packaged dog food.
The bourgeois reflexively like it because they think it makes them enlightened to like a movie with a gay theme, it doesn't.

1. Just because a movie wins oscars does not make it a good movie. 2. Jake is a great actor and if you didn't have your head in your ass you might see that. 3. This movie looks great! i am a bit suprised its a disney production however. I wouldn't have expected them to pick up the PoP series. I do hope the trailor does the movie justice and isn't just a fat piece of hype.

Looks like another Hollywood steroid abuser to me.

Oh big deal! Let's see one of these Hollywood losers put in 50+ hrs a week while pumping iron as a second job! I'm sure he had six personal trainers, a staff of masseuses (or masseurs if he goes that way) and lots of happy endings before most of us even make it to happy hour!

his talent is wasted on this film. The problem is this game simply can't be adpated to a good movie. The game was fun due to its gameplay elements, the story was mainly just icing on the cake, the cake being made of gameplay.
Really Jake could not find any better movie to do, he's done Donnie Darko, Zodiac and broke back. Hell even his sister is a great actress in the ovie Stranger Then Fiction.

I am so there. I will definitely be seeing Prince of Persia. Like movies like this, swords, fantasy and Jake is looking mighty fine.

All you shallow narrow minded dimwits need to learn to do something else besides adoring movie stars who are the dregs of our society.
