'2012' TV Show in the Works -- Guess the World Doesn't End!

Thanks to TV, the world won't really end in '2012.'

According to a report at EW.com, Roland Emmerich, the producer-writer-director of the apocalyptic film, which opens Nov. 13, is developing a TV series that picks up after the big screen story ends.

"The plan is that it is 2013 and it's about what happens after the disaster," Emmerich said. "It is about the resettling of Earth. That is very, very fascinating ... I think it will focus on a group of people who survived but not on the boats ... maybe they were on a piece of land that was spared or one that became an island in the process of the crust moving. There are so many possibilities of what they could do and I'd be excited to watch it."

The film's executive producer, Mark Gordon, who has strong ties to network television as executive producer of 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Private Practice,' is already talking with ABC about the series, EW reports. That would be a perfect fit for ABC, since there will be a big hole in its schedule after 'Lost' ends.

"I think people would be interested in this topic on a weekly basis," Gordon told EW. "There's hope for the world despite the magnitude of the 2012 disaster as seen in the film. After the movie, there are some people who survive and the question is how will these survivors build a new world and what will it look like."

Let's hope that the brave new world looks a lot better than 'Jericho,' TV's last stab at creating a post-apocalyptic world.
