Vampire Movies Going the Rom-Com Route, Thanks to Amy Heckerling

It's official: The craze for all things vampire now extends to romantic comedy. And it's, like, totally gonna be 'Twilight' meets 'Clueless.'

Amy Heckerling, the director behind 'Fast Times at Ridgmont High' and 'Clueless,' will tackle 'Vamps,' a contemporary tale of two young female bloodsuckers living (well, more or less) it up in New York until each falls in love.

Having begun as a horror staple, these days vampire tales are more associated with angsty teen romance, thanks to the 'Twilight' series of books and movies and the hit CW show 'The Vampire Diaries.' With vamp romantic comedy now being added to the list, we have to wonder: Can a 'Vampire Movie' spoof be far behind?

Krysten Ritter, most recently seen in 'Confessions of a a Shopaholic,' is the only cast member announced so far, according to ScreenDaily.com. It will be the first starring role for the actress, who'll next be seen in the comedy 'She's Out of My League.'

Production on the rom-com is set to start in March 2010.
