Guillermo del Toro to Cameo in 'The Hobbit'

Guillermo del Toro stopped by the message boards of TheOneRing.net to announce that he's following in the footsteps of his 'Lord of the Rings' predecessor Peter Jackson and preparing to make an appearance in 'The Hobbit.' Jackson often makes cameo appearances in his films, usually as a drunk ('The Frighteners,' 'The Fellowship of the Ring'), and now del Toro will keep the tradition going in Middle-earth.

The cameo appearance will allow del Toro to indulge in two of his earliest passions: mold making and makeup design. The director will be playing some sort of creature that shows up, says a few lines and then promptly gets killed.

del Toro says he "had a hand on the design of the creature and I will personally sculpt the appliances that will be applied on my face and hands. I used to sculpt the creatures for NECROPIA (my FX company) and I miss it a bit."

At least we now have one cast member confirmed for 'The Hobbit.' Who do you think will be announced next? Ian McKellen? Andy Serkis? Ron Perlman?
