Tarantino May Be Planning an 'Inglourious Basterds' Prequel



Hey, 'Inglourious Basterds' fans: Can't get enough Nazi-scalping, revisionist history, and bad spelling? Then you may be in for a treat: a 'Basterds' prequel that would reunite writer/director Quentin Tarantino, Brad Pitt and the rest of the film's unlikely World War II action heroes.

E! Online spoke to 'Basterds' co-star Eli Roth (pictured, left, with Pitt), who said that Pitt and the rest of the cast "would drop whatever they're doing" if given the chance to reprise their roles, that Tarantino has a script mostly written, and that there are even some scenes already in the can.

"We have three scenes that we shot in Boston that take place before the war, and Quentin says if he does the prequel, he's going to use them," Roth told E!. "They're not going to be DVD extras." One of the scenes, Roth said, involves himself and Cloris Leachman, who signs the fabled Basterds bat. "It's me and the little old Jewish ladies of the neighborhood," Roth said.

In fact, Roth noted, the only real bottleneck holding up a prequel is Tarantino himself; Roth says the auteur won't give the go-ahead order until he perfects the script. "Quentin's standards are so high that he won't do it unless he feels like he can do it better than the first one."

In other words, don't hold your breath waiting for the Basterds to scalp again. After all, it took Tarantino more than a decade of tinkering before he got the first 'Basterds' off the ground. Plus, what would he call the prequel? 'Inglourious Feetuses,' perhaps? 'Kill Adolf - Vol. 1?'
