'Mad Men,' 'Buffy' Writer Marti Noxon Is Mad for 'Fright Night' Remake

The film, like its subject matter, is undead. 'Mad Men' writer-producer Marti Noxon will be penning the DreamWorks Studios remake -- revamp? -- of 'Fright Night.' Noxon, no stranger to the cult of smart and funny vampires, cut her teeth as a producer on both 'Angel' and 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer.'

The project has been in development for some time. The 1985 cult classic horror-comedy originally starred William Ragsdale, pre-Herman's Head, as a teenager who learns his next door neighbor is a vampire, as well as Roddy McDowall, the cynical local late-night horror showcase host. Fans will probably best remember the movie for the graphic "crucifixing" of the over-the-top obnoxious Evil Eddie vampire character.

In May, The Hollywood Reporter noted that the update was officially back on in active development. Producers Michael De Luca, Michael Gaeta and Alison Rosenzweig of Dream Works were then attached to the project. The revamp plans to maintain the humorous tone while updating the special effects.

But how, we ask, can one improve on the cinematic perfection that is Evil Eddie getting crucifixed?
