Focus Features has just announced its "audacious" release schedule for six films next year, including movies starring George Clooney and Ben Stiller, a Roman epic with Channing Tatum, and new films from Sofia Coppola and the team behind 'Half Nelson.'On March 12, look for Ben Stiller in 'Greenberg', from director Noah Baumbach ('The Squid and the Whale'), who wrote the script from a story he conceived with wife Jennifer Jason Leigh. Stiller plays Roger Greenberg, a man having a mid-life crisis, who begins an unlikely romance with an aspiring singer played by Greta Gerwig.
Thomas Balmes' "visually stunning and joyful" documentary 'Babies' follows four infants (in Mongolia, Namibia, San Francisco and Tokyo) from birth to their first steps. It opens in a limited run on April 16.
On September 1, photographer-turned-director Anton Corbijn brings us the suspense-thriller 'The American,' starring George Clooney as a master assassin who vows to quit the business. The screenplay by Rowan Joffe is adapted from Martin Booth's novel "A Very Private Gentleman."
Sofia Coppola's next film, 'Somewhere,' does not yet have a specific release date. It tells the story of bad-boy actor Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff), living a life of excess at Hollywood's famed Chateau Marmont Hotel. An unexpected visit from his 11-year-old daughter (Elle Fanning), forces Johnny to reevaluate his choices.
Kevin Macdonald's Roman epic adventure 'The Eagle of the Ninth' (adapted from Rosemary Sutcliff's classic novel) will open in the third quarter. Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell and Donald Sutherland star. Shooting wraps next week in London.
Set for release sometime in November 2010 is 'It's Kind of a Funny Story.' Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck ('Half Nelson') directed this story about 16-year-old Craig (Keir Gilchrist) who checks himself into a mental health clinic. The film is based on Ned Vizzini's 2006 novel of the same name.
Focus CEO James Schamus described the 2010 slate "as audacious as any in our history." The announcement comes just as the company celebrates passing the $1 billion mark in domestic ticket sales since its launch in 2002.
