Country music may be all abuzz over Taylor Swift this month after she wrestled the coveted Entertainer of the Year award from Kenny Chesney at the Country Music Association Awards. But that doesn't mean Chesney is going away quietly. Quite the opposite.
Chesney, who won the award the previous four consecutive years, is planning on becoming a big-screen presence, as they say, at a theater near you. In April, the Knoxville native will release his first full-length concert film, 'Kenny Chesney: Summer in 3D'.
Building on that, the trailer for 'Summer in 3D' makes a case for Chesney being the 21st-century version of Garth Brooks, who revolutionized the country biz in the '90s with a bombastic stage show that owed a lot more to Kiss than to Hank Williams. We see the chiseled Chesney before a stadium full of roaring Kennyphiles, sprinting down a long runway, whirling overhead in what looks like an airborne throne, and at one point standing with outstretched arms in the rain. (Did Ed Harris cue that from the control room, like in 'The Truman Show'? Just asking.)
In short, 'Summer in 3D' chronicles an astounding modern country stage show, with pyrotechnics and athletic feats galore. And the 3D resolution is so clear you can almost tell what gauge strings Chesney and his band are using. But apart from being a hot show, it's also an announcement that, for all his hits about kicking back and popping open a cool one on the beach, Chesney is the Man these days in country music, one of the dwindling few who can fill an arena and make it dance.

Kenny is no new Garth. He might be a Garth wanna be. I went to a show and Kenny did not even acknowledge his fans. The fans were rude and focused on nothing but drinking...so pathetic. People were even leaving the show early while Kenny was on because they were dissapointed with the show. The whole high energy and theatre thing has been done by Garth. Kenny is trying to be Garth but there is no way. Garth is on an entirely different level. I know I'll get some flack for saying this. I know people will say that you drink at concerts. Yes. You do...I do too. But I have been to a lot of shows and Kennys show is a drunkfest and the fans are the rudest I have seen. I also saw no real connection between the artist and the fans like I do at many other concerts I've been to. Kenny just gets on stage and goes on autopilot...not cool.

Monica< I have been to many Kenny concerts over the years and I have to say you are crazy! He puts on the best show out there right now. I have seen him in large venues(Gillette Stadium) and very small ones (mohegan sun) and he totally rocks every time. Garth is yesterdays news, kenny is a favorite among my daughters seventeen year old friends, as is rascall flats and keith urban, its modern country, get over it.

Monica - I went to my first Kenny Chesney concert in May 2009 in Atlanta so I must disagree with you.
Never in all of my years going to concerts have I enjoyed a concert as much as this one. He was the sweetest most kind person that I have seen perform. No matter where you were sitting he called out to all of us. I was on the 4th row from the stage and I can assure you no one near me got out of control. Yes, some were drinking, but the guards did not allow the kind of behavior that you described. Kenny Chesney was on stage for over 2 hours and the crowd loved him. Besides, who wants Kenny to be like Garth Brooks? They are totally different.
