Will Ferrell Tops Forbes' Overpaid List

Will FerrellFor pretty much everyone involved, the summer box office dud 'Land of the Lost' is the gift that keeps on taking.

Now, Will Ferrell has become the latest Hollywood entity to feel more pain from the ill-received comedy, with Forbes putting him at the head of its list of the most overpaid actors.

Costing Universal Pictures $100 million to produce, and almost that much to market worldwide, 'Land of the Lost" took in only $65 million at the global box office.

In calculating Ferrell's position, Forbes took into account all of the film's revenue, including DVD and TV sales, and juxtaposed it against the actor's lofty A-list salary. The publication also factored in Ferrell's other movies, including 'Semi-Pro,' which took in only $43.9 million worldwide. According to Forbes, for every dollar producers of Ferrell movies spend, they only get back $3.29. (Note: a 329% return on investment doesn't sound half bad to us.)

Coming in second on the list was Ewan McGregor ($3.75 rate of return), who despite appearing in last summer's lucrative 'Angels & Demons,' also has a list of money-losers on his resume that includes everything from 'Deception' to 'The Island.'

Others not escaping infamy include Eddie Murphy (No. 4), star of recent duds including 'Imagine That,' and Jim Carrey, who currently voice stars in Disney's $200 million-budgeted 'A Christmas Carol.'

Here's Forbes' complete "bottom 10":

1. Will Ferrell ($3.29)
2. Ewan McGregor ($3.75)
3. Billy Bob Thornton ($4)
4. Eddie Murphy ($4.43)
5. Ice Cube ($4.77)
6. Tom Cruise ($7.18)
7. Drew Barrymore ($7.43)
8. Leonardo DiCaprio ($7.52)
9. Samuel Jackson ($8.59)
10. Jim Carrey ($8.62)
