Funny how a 'New Moon' rising can bring out a transformation in all of us. Just days after 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' director Chris Weitz admitted during an interview with MovieMaker Magazine that "I have maybe one more film in me," it now appears that he's had a change of heart.Far from folding up his director's chair, a new interview with New York Magazine reveals that Weitz is blaming all those pesky retirement rumors on -- what else? -- online gossip.
"That's become Internet Chinese whispers," Weitz insists in his chat with NY Mag. "I said something like, 'Oh I'm so tired of doing all these movies,' but that became, 'I'm not doing any more movies now.' There's always a time I say never again, but it's more like a bad hangover."
A "bad hangover" sounds like a far cry from Weitz's earlier statement to MovieMaker in which he adamantly declared, "I don't think that people have to do the same thing for all their lives ... I'm always looking for my last film, where I can put the brush down, and this ['The Gardener,' Weitz's Twilight follow-up] is the one."
'The Gardener' is purportedly Weitz's homage to the Italian Vittorio De Sica classic, 'The Bicycle Thief,' which the director intends to shoot half in English and half in Spanish. But the real reason for Weitz's disillusionment with his chosen career path stems from his experience shooting the big budget flop, 'The Golden Compass.'
"I wanted that to be my masterpiece," he told MovieMaker. "Unfortunately, the edit was taken from me and whatever chance I had at that was also taken from me, which is kind of sad." The negative experience with New Line was thought to have dissuaded Weitz from stepping behind the camera again.
But now the filmmaker is humming a different tune, telling New York Mag that 'New Moon' will serve as "redemption for me, because I was able to accurately depict the book on film." Although early critical reaction to the second installment of the 'Twilight Saga' seems resoundingly negative ("You know you're in trouble with a sequel when the word of mouth advises you to see the first movie twice instead," cautions Roger Ebert), it's likely that 'New Moon' will at least succeed where 'The Golden Compass' failed and fully dominate the box office, if ticket presales and midnight screenings are any indication -- a triumph that is certain to put the indecisive director back in favor with studio heads all over Hollywood. Time will tell if Weitz will grow tired of directing, but for the foreseeable future, at least, 'Twilight' certainly isn't going anywhere.

I completely disagree with Ebert or any of the "experts" who think seeing the first Twilight movie twice is better than seeing New Moon once. I read and loved all the books and the first movie made me laugh at parts that were not suppose to be funny. It was awful, from the casting, to the direction, and especially the special effects. Just saw New Moon and it is a HUGE improvement over all of the issues I had with the first installment of Twilight! The actors are a bit more comfortable to watch this time and the special effects are much improved. I would credit both improvements to the director. Hopefully he sticks around for the next two books. He did a much better job than the first director of translating the book to the screen this time. Granted the budget was larger, however, a simple TV show like Smallville has better effects than the first Twilight movie.

New Moon was amazing. I agree that the improvements over twilight are to the directors credit. I dont reccomend anyone see twilight. it didnt have the same heart as the book, but new moon did. I hope Weitz does well.

After Raiders of the Lost Ark Harrison Ford said he did not want to do anymore Indiana Jones films. He said it again after Temple of doom and a third time after Last Crusade. Of course, Harrison gets really beat up during the production so its usually frustration speaking.

I say the review of the movie depends on which way you are thinking when going to see it. If you go with the mentality of "THE BOOK"... it will never be good enough. With that side out of the way the movie was good. The director did a good job on capturing a story with sense due to the limit of time...
THE ONLY THING THAT REALLY BUGS ME,(and I really wish there was some way for this to be answered by Chris Himself) IS: The scene were Alice shows the future to Aro... WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?
A little help (and I dont mean this without respect):
IN the vision you have a quick image of the Cullen's house (daylight) quick close-up going from the front door of the house to the roof. All the Cullens "shinning" and in the middle Edward holding Bella's hand which all this time is giving her back to the camera. She turns around. Another quick close-up to her face while her eyes are closed (which is shinning). Another quick zoom into her eyes in the moment they open to reveal they have become Gold as the vampires around her.
So, IS THIS OK? or SHOULD I KEEP MY DAY JOB?
Seriously I respect Chris job. Not everyone is supposed to know everything. Not me at least and I accept it. BUT WE ALL LAUGHED AT THAT MOMENT OF THE MOVIE.
Anyone can comment about this. I can answer hate mail too but repeat again: liked all the movie except THAT PART.
