If you mess with the bull, you get the horns.At least that's what bystanders on the Cadiz, Spain, set of Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz's latest film 'Knight & Day' learned when seven bulls set to be used in the film escaped and ran rampant through the streets. Two women sustained minor injuries before the bulls were finally captured at a nearby beach.
Producer Calle Cruzada said he didn't know how the bulls escaped, but shooting of the film has been suspended indefinitely.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cruise and Diaz were not on the set when the bulls stampeded through the city's streets, and are due to arrive in Cadiz next week.
On November 16, CAS International, an anti-bullfighting organization, urged Cruise and Diaz to not participate in the film, which they feared would encourage Americans and other international audiences to participate in bull runs. In Pamplona, Spain, bull runs are a tradition that often attracts crowds in thousands.
Accidents on film sets are too common nowadays. Last year, a stunt double for Daniel Radcliffe of 'Harry Potter' fame suffered a serious back injury in a fall that involved explosives.
In 2008, another stuntman suffered serious head injuries while filming a car crash scene for the film 'Quantum of Solace.' That accident was preceded by another accident in which the infamous James Bond car the Aston Martin skidded into a river during heavy rain. The driver suffered minor cuts and bruises in that mishap.
In 2007, a special effects technician was killed on the set of 'The Dark Knight' when his camera vehicle collided with a tree. The truck was following the Batmobile, which was set on a racetrack, and the technician was believed to have been preparing to film a car chase scene.
Although neither Cruise nor Diaz was physically affected by the bull stampede in Spain, celebrities themselves have been known to suffer injuries while shooting. Shia LaBeouf nearly lost his vision when shrapnel hit him in the eye while filming 'Transformers: The Revenge of the Fallen.' Nicole Kidman was involved in a crash while shooting a car chase scene in 2007's 'The Invasion.' Daniel Craig, aka James Bond himself, nearly lost a finger while lensing a fight sequence for 'Quantum of Solace.' And earlier this fall, Angelina Jolie made headlines when she got a gash on her head whilst filming an action sequence for the upcoming spy thriller 'Salt.' And you thought being a movie star was easy.
