'Zombieland' Director Dying to Make Sequel

Didn't quite get your fill of the flesh-eating through 'Zombieland's' brisk 88-minute run time? Good news: Director Ruben Fleischer confirms that the folks at Sony, the film's distributor, are interested in a sequel.

The newcomer to feature films told Moviehole that the second iteration of the zom-com would likely be in 3D.

"The genre really lends itself to (3D)", said Fleischer. The principals of the original cast -- Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin and Emma Stone -- are reportedly interested in another go around with the undead as well.

'Zombieland' has thus far grossed over $74 million to date. Meanwhile, the rise of the monster film genres (see 'New Moon: Twilight Saga' and 'The Wolf Man,' among countless others) -- coincides nicely with the ascent of digital 3D.

The 3D zombie space will have plenty of re-animated corpses. There has been talk of a "dimensionalized" 'Dawn of the Dead' remake. 'Condition Dead,' about zombie hunters, is presently scheduled for a 2010 release. There is also that Romero-less 3D CGI format remake of 'Night of the Living Dead.'

The zombie genre is particularly well-suited for 3D. After all, who among us can resist the suffocating closeness of a zombie infested 3D- foreground scene? Only in three dimensions can one fully appreciate all that gore.
