Carla Bruni-Sarkozy to Appear in Woody Allen's New Film

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy in Woody Allen filmWoody Allen has always had a knack for casting beautiful women in his films, and his latest pic is no exception: He's nabbed France's first lady, former supermodel Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, for a role.

The singer-songwriter and ex-supermodel told Canal Plus television -- where she appeared last week for an interview and duet with crooner Harry Connick Jr. -- that she's agreed to be in Allen's next film -- but she doesn't know what role he has in store for her and admits she could be a terrible actress.

The wife of President Nicolas Sarkozy said that Allen "asked me to be in his next film. I'm not at all an actress. Maybe I'll be absolutely terrible," she said. "Perhaps I will be completely hopeless, but I can't miss an opportunity like this one. When I'm a grandmother I'd like to be able to say I made a film with Woody Allen."

Allen visited the French first couple in June during a trip to Paris to promote his last film, 'Whatever Works.' He told RTL Radio that he wanted her for his next film, which he'll shoot in Paris next year after he finishes 'You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger' with Anthony Hopkins, Josh Brolin, Naomi Watts and Antonio Banderas in London.

"I'm sure she would be wonderful," he said. "She has charisma and she performs, so she's not unknown to an audience, and I would cast her in many different ways."

Bruni-Sarkozy, who has made three albums, including one containing poems by William Butler Yeats, Emily Dickinson, W. H. Auden and Dorothy Parker, has made a few brief film appearances in which she played herself. These included Robert Altman's 1994 fashion satire 'Pret-a-Porter' and the 1998 French film 'Paparazzi.' One of her songs was on the soundtrack of the recent comedy '(500) Days of Summer.'

She was named last year as ambassador for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. She also set up her own foundation that supports education and helps fight HIV-AIDS.

Aside from Paris locations, nothing is known about the story line or cast for the untitled Woody Allen movie -- not unusual for the filmmaker.

"If this ever comes about, it'll be a great experience," Bruni-Sarkozy said. We agree.
