    Trailer: 'The Road'

In this bleak tale of post-apocalyptia, a father and his son walk alone through a burned and desolate United States. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape except for the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it's gray. The sun is gone, obscured by cloud.

Their destination is the coast, and the only way to get there is along the seemingly-endless road. They have no idea what awaits them there. They have nothing: just a pistol to defend themselves against the groups of marauders, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food - and each other.

Starring 'Lord of the Rings' and 'A History of Violence' leading man Viggo Mortensen and 'Monster' beauty Charlize Theron, 'The Road' explores family bonds and what it means to be human. Other stars include Guy Pearce and Robert Duvall. 'The Boy' is smartly played by youngster Kodi Smit-McPhee.

Universal Studios: To Tour or Not? Not.

As a wee Canadian girl, I would hear and fantasize about visiting Universal Studios in Los Angeles. The other day, a considerable amount of years later (I won't say how many. A woman never reveals her age), I decided to take the plunge. I drove to Universal City (I love that its name is inherently paradoxical. Is it simply a city? Is it universal?) to take the Universal Studios tour. Since it was the day before Thanksgiving, I figured that I would be the only person in the Hollywood-themed park. Most people had already left town. However, when I pulled up to pay for parking, I waited in a long line up of cars filled with passengers who were all sticking their arms out of their vehicles taking pictures. Of what? I'm not sure. Maybe the parking lot?

And the Oscar Buzz Goes to ... Ben Foster in 'The Messenger'

Even in supporting roles, Ben Foster has been hard to ignore, cornering the market on crazy-intense parts such as the manic addict in 'Alpha Dog.' He scored some (unrealized) Oscar buzz for his role as Charlie Prince, the dandified but dangerous cowboy in '3:10 to Yuma.'

While his character's snakeskin jacket was memorable, the actor's ability to draw focus from such intimidating leads as Russell Crowe and Christian Bale was the real showstopper. In otherwise forgettable films like 'Hostage,' and '30 Days of Night,' Foster's few scenes seem to come from a different (and far better) movie altogether.

Now the 29-year-old steps into the well-earned spotlight in a much less showy but just as riveting role, that of Staff Sergeant Will Montgomery in the indie drama 'The Messenger.' Will returns home from a devastating tour in Iraq and is assigned the task of notifying next of kin that their loved ones have been killed in the line of duty. He's partnered with a senior officer (Woody Harrelson) who's an old hand at this thankless duty.

Watch Trailers for Family Guy's Latest Star Wars Parody

Something, Something, Something, Dark Side on Blu-rayAnybody that saw last year's Family Guy: Blue Harvest - the hilarious Star Wars IV: A New Hope parody from the hit US animated TV show - will no doubt be pleased to hear that they're back to take on The Empire Strikes Back with the excellently titled, Something, Something, Something Dark Side.

This time round we get to see, amongst other things, what actually happens when an AT-AT walker falls to the ground (they hold their knee and start crying) and we hear annoying high-pitched princesses. Oh, and we see a giant chicken dressed as Boba Fett.

Anika Noni Rose Talks About Making History in 'Princess and the Frog'

While Disney animated movies tend to have homespun charm and timeless appeal -- and are of course kid-friendly -- 'The Princess and the Frog' has a much different significance. With this highly anticipated release, Disney has its first African-American princess in nearly a century of making movies.

Behind the pioneering Princess Tiana is Anika Noni Rose, a Tony Award winner best known on the big screen for her work in 2006's 'Dreamgirls.'

Rose talked with Moviefone about working on a film with such social significance, living her own fairytale and staying in touch with her 'Dreamgirls' co-stars Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce.

    Trailer Killed the Movie Star

I don't need to see the upcoming film 'Brothers', starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman. Not that I would anyway, but after seeing the trailer, I now know a Marine dies and his brother slithers into the role as "caretaker" for the widow and kids. Then, of course, it turns out he's not dead, blah blah blah. I won't give any more away, but the trailer goes on after that, revealing even more of the plot. Thank you Lionsgate. I can save my $11 when it hits theatres December 4.

I hate trailers. I particularly hate that I'm a hostage of sorts in the theatre, there early to get a seat, but forced to watch four or five trailers. Should I close my eyes and stick fingers in both my ears, repeating "lalalalala I can't hear you; I can't hear you"?

'New York, I Love You': Canadian Connections

The upcoming movie 'New York, I Love You' features about, I dunno, a zillion high-profile Hollywood actors. Orlando Bloom? Check. Cloris Leachman? Check. Bradley Cooper, Ethan Hawke, James Caan, Natalie Portman? Check, check, check, check. Even teen queens Blake Lively and Rachel Bilson make appearances, not to mention Susan Sarandon's daughter Eva Amurri and The Beef himself, Shia LaBeouf.

The film is a collection of intersecting vignettes that take place all over, you guessed it, New York. As a patriotic Canadian, I couldn't help but wonder about Canada's role in this parade of Hollywood stars acting in an American production about New York. I do believe that, much like Kevin Bacon, everything can be traced back to Canada.

Sure, there's the obvious - Canadian Hayden Christensen is in it. But there must be more. And there is. So, without further ado, here's a breakdown of all of the Canadian connections to this film's impressive star roster I can think of. Think I've missed some? Add 'em in the comments box.
