Board Games We Want to See Become Movies

Marvel Comics has long since become a player in Hollywood, so the folks at Hasbro are following suit. With 'Transformers' and 'G.I. Joe' already filling theaters, Sony Pictures Entertainment, along with Will Smith and James Lassiter's Overbrook production company, has acquired the film rights to Risk, everybody's favorite game of world domination.

It isn't the first board game-turned-movie "adaptation" Hollywood has planned. Not by any stretch (and we're not talking about that fun 1985 'Clue' movie). Last year, Universal announced a six-year partnership with Hasbro to produce movies based on Monopoly (with Ridley Scott set to direct), Candyland, Ouija, Battleship, Magic: The Gathering and Clue (again, now with 'Pirates of the Caribbean' director Gore Verbinski attached).

Winona Ryder, Barbara Hershey Look for Career Comebacks With 'Black Swan'

Winona Ryder joins Darren Aronofsky's 'Black Swan' as an aging ballerina forced to relinquish the lead in 'Swan Lake' to a younger, hotter up-and-comer: Natalie Portman. Ryder can't miss the irony of that casting call.

In the '90s, Ryder scored back-to-back Oscar nominations -- but since being famously eclipsed by then rising star Angelina Jolie in 2000's 'Girl, Interrupted' (which earned Jolie a Best Supporting Actress Oscar), Ryder's career has been on the back burner. (The whole shoplifting thing probably didn't help, either.)

Bill Nighy Saves Rock 'n' Roll in 'Pirate Radio'

Bill Nighy in Pirate RadioBill Nighy is not an aging rock star; he just looks like one.

While the 59-year-old British actor is best known for being buried under pounds of makeup as Davy Jones in the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' sequels and as vampire patriarch Viktor in the 'Underworld' movies, he's also played middle-aged rock heroes in three films: 'Still Crazy' (as an addled rocker trying to reunite his old band), 'Love Actually' (as a blunt-speaking veteran rocker, who steals the movie from an ensemble of better-known British stars), and now in 'Pirate Radio.'

Jake Gyllenhaal: Why Hollywood's Hardest-Working Guy Deserves an Oscar

No young actor in Hollywood is putting together a more eclectic resume than Jake Gyllenhaal these days. With the news (per Variety and the Hollywood Reporter) that he's negotiating to star in 'Source Code,' a sci-fi thriller to be directed by 'Moon' helmer (and David Bowie spawn) Duncan Jones, Gyllenhaal is poised to add science fiction to an already beefy arsenal of roles that spans almost every genre imaginable.

So why is Gyllenhaal trying to be jack of all genres? Well, before we go over the mounting group of projects to which Jake is attached, let's talk about the Oscars.

Philadelphia Overrun With Rocky Balboa Spottings

On a day that fell somewhere between 'The Surreal Life' and Improv Everywhere, Philadelphia hosted 1,000 Rockys, a dancing woman dressed as Apollo Creed in 'Rocky IV,' and a cheese steak-eating contest all under the watchful eye of radio host/pugnacious pugilist Danny Bonaduce on Sunday.

We're gonna wait and let that sink in for a second before continuing.

Paltrow Replaces Theron as Kidman's Lover in 'The Danish Girl'

Here's some offbeat casting news.

Gwyneth Paltrow has been cast opposite Nicole Kidman in the big-screen adaptation of 'The Danish Girl,' David Ebershoff's book about the relationship between the first post-operative transsexual and his wife, Variety reports.
