Best Animated Films Oscar Category: Record 20 Movies Enter

There's been a lot of discussion this year over Oscar's decision to increase the field of Best Picture nominees from five to 10, but there's another category quietly experiencing it's own expansion: Best Animated Feature Film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a record 20 animated features have been submitted for consideration, which likely will lead to five pictures being in contention this year as opposed to the usual three.

'2012' Movie Reviews

Roland Emmerich has done it again. After destroying half the world in 'Independence Day' and 'The Day After Tomorrow,' the destruction-meister has set his sights on all of Mother Earth in what is probably one of the most anticipated films of the year.

'2012' cashes in on the Internet-stirred fears of an end-of-the-world prediction for Dec. 21, 2012, a prediction often attributed to the Mayans, whose calendar ended on that date. But leave it to Emmerich to figure out in what ways and how doomsday arrives (no spoilers, here). Suffice to say that this demolition derby is breathless.

Don't worry about a coherent plot line or nuanced characterizations. That's not why you're going to see this one. '2012' exists to stimulate your eyes, ears and brain with nonstop big-screen excitement. The critics know this and generally have given the film kudos for what it is: one big WOW. Check out reviews after the jump.

'Mad Men' Writer Marti Noxon Is Mad for 'Fright Night' Remake

This film, like its subject matter, is undead. 'Mad Men' writer-producer Marti Noxon will be penning the DreamWorks Studios remake -- revamp? -- of Fright Night. Noxon, no stranger to the cult of smart and funny vampires, cut her teeth as a producer on both 'Angel' and 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer.'

The project has been in development for some time. The 1985 cult classic horror-comedy originally starred William Ragsdale, pre-Herman's Head, as a teenager who learns his next door neighbor is a vampire, as well as Roddy McDowall, the cynical local late-night horror showcase host. Fans will probably best remember the movie for the graphic "crucifixing" of the over-the-top obnoxious Evil Eddie vampire character.

David Koepp's 'Premium Rush' on the Fast Track at Sony

'Premium Rush,' a bike-messenger chase flick, is being fast-tracked at Sony -- so twentysomething actors, hone up on those daredevil cycling skills now.

David Koepp is best known as one of Hollywood's highest-paid screenwriters of blockbusters like 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,' 'Panic Room,' and 'Spider-Man', but 'Rush' will mark the first time he'll be helming as well as scripting a big-budget action flick. Koepp has directed a number of smaller films, such as the comedy 'Ghost Town," starring Ricky Gervais.

Jason Priestley Eyes a Return to Big-Screen Glory With 'Death of a Freerider'

Jason PriestleyFormer 'Beverly Hills, 90210' star Jason Priestley will return to the silver screen as producer of the upcoming drug-smuggling film 'Death of a Freerider,' Variety reports.

The film, which Priestly optioned from Jesse Hyde's 'Freerider,' is the story of a young Canadian adventurer named Sam Brown, who died while trying to transition from mountain biking to the world of cross-border high-stakes drug running. With help from producers Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev from Nomadic Pictures, Priestley's latest production venture aims to start shooting at the end of 2010.

Celebrities Talk 'God' in New Documentary -- Will Anyone Listen?

For filmmakers, there are heavy subjects, and then there are really heavy subjects. For his thoughtful and poignant new documentary, 'Oh My God?,' Peter Rodger went after the Sasquatch of big questions, "What is God?"

Traveling the world from Kenya to Australia, Bali to Tibet, Jerusalem to Japan, Rodger posed that question of holy men of all faiths, aboriginal tribes, Christian and Muslim fundamentalists, and... celebrities.

New Blu-Ray and Special Edition DVD Releases: November 10

Oh 'Mamma Mia!' Yes, that fabulous musical starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgard, Christine Baranski and Julie Walters is back again just in time for holiday gift giving. And don't forget to scare the little ones with a Blu-ray disc version of 'Monsters,Inc.'
